About
My journey into the world of art is a rich tapestry woven with the threads of family heritage, self-discovery, and uninhibited creativity. Born into a family of authors, jewellers, sculptors, and photographers, I was immersed in artistic expression from a young age. While the exact origins of my path remain somewhat mysterious, it was this nurturing environment that cultivated the creative spirit defining me today.
Growing up in Norway, my childhood was filled with colourful tales and textures. In a household where creativity was a way of life, I explored various art forms. Each family member enriched my evolving view of art, yet I found myself self-taught in my artistic endeavours. My passion for creating art that dances between abstract, whimsy and seriousness developed naturally over time. I like to illustrate movement with surreal
undertones.
Realizing art as my calling was not a sudden epiphany but a quiet, gradual acceptance. My affinity for art emerged early, transitioning slowly into a professional pursuit after a life of industrial sales and management. After retirement, I carved my path with a brush in hand, finding inspiration in both the every day and the extraordinary. I cherish acrylics for their quick-drying capabilities, which complement my explorative technique. Often I work on more than one piece at a time. I cherish the days when friends and viewers say, “Oh yeah, now I see it”
In a perpetual state of experimentation, my work flourishes through mixed media and collage. The discovery of Gel Printing Plate transfers added an exciting dimension to my work, akin to uncovering hidden treasures with each peel of paper from the gel plate.
Photography and a love of nature's colors and shapes greatly influence my artistic vision. The organic evolution of pen, ink, and scratchboard pieces reflects my belief that often it is what is removed from a painting that unveils its true essence. I aim to invite viewers on new voyages with each piece, unveiling subtleties with every encounter. My work is crafted to captivate, surprise anew each morning, and stir a sense of humanitarian consciousness. I regret what some of our forefathers have done to the First Nations people of the world.
While my technique is deeply personal, my aesthetic draws from broader influences and movements. Connections with artist organizations and galleries bolster my visibility, yet my art remains distinctly individual.
Although galleries and exhibitions have showcased my works, my true achievement lies in the dialogue between my art and its admirers. Feedback, especially from everyday observers, fuels my artistic passion and echoes my belief in art as a lens for examining humanity. Even as prominent collectors embrace my creations, it is the joy from everyday viewers that truly drives me.
Beyond the canvas, I indulge in hobbies that feed back into my artistic psyche. These interests, though non-artistic, merge into the streams of my creative reservoir.
I stand as a beacon of self-taught passion and innovation, with ambitions that stretch the boundaries of conventional art. Through my ever-evolving work, I aspire to touch on deeper values and beliefs, reinforcing my vision of art’s critical role in shaping and reflecting societal values. The future of my art career remains an open canvas, ready to capture the myriad shades of human experience.
